Albion made the most of international break – boss
WEST Brom’s promotion drive is firmly back on track after an accomplished performance Darren Moore credited to the international break.
Goals from Jay Rodriguez and Harvey Barnes saw off a battling Ipswich side and ensured Hayden Jackson’s late reply was a token gesture.
In the build-up to the match, Moore had highlighted the pros and cons of the latest international break.
The final round of national team fixtures in 2018 had deprived Albion of a chance to immediately build on their fine victory against Leeds.
But after the win at Ipswich nudged them into fourth, Moore was able to see the virtues of the pause in domestic play.
“As a unit I thought they were very good and all played in sync,” the Baggies boss said.
“To come here and do that we needed to have a performance like that.
“The international break allowed us to have that performance and to work on things in training.
“It was perfect for us to prepare for this game and I’m delighted the hard work we put in has been repaid. “It’s three valuable points.” As in the defeat of Leeds, Albion were denied a rare clean sheet by a goal in the latter stages.
For Moore, Jackson’s late effort, assisted by an uncharacteristic error from Tosin Adarabioyo, did not take the gloss off a professional away display.
Nor was he worried about his team’s propensity to concede and the effect that nasty habit could have on West Brom’s promotion chances in the long run.
“Let’s just see at the end of the season where we are and how it ebbs and flows,” he said.
“It’s almost like a stab in the dark really, we don’t know what’s going to come about.”
