Alert driver escapes bid to steal car
AN Audi driver escaped carjackers at a business park after spotting a warning on Facebook.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, was ambushed by a balaclava-clad thug as he tried to leave Birmingham Business Park, Solihull Parkway, on Tuesday night.
But the 33-year-old escaped because he had already spotted the men and read Facebook alerts.
He was approaching his car at 6.30pm when he saw two men in a black VW Passat parked nearby.
He said: “It caught my eye as I had read earlier on the Stolen Cars Midlands Facebook group about a black saloon car going around.
“When I looked in the driver’s seat one of the guys slouched down so I couldn’t see him. I was lucky I hadn’t reached my car yet, else I would’ve had nowhere to run.
“A big guy jumped out and started running at me. He shouted at me saying: ‘Give me your f***** keys.’ I thought I’m not risking it. I legged it down the car park and eventually he gave up chasing me.”
The police arrived and escorted him back to his car. He added: “Sometimes I think: ‘Oh God why did I buy that, it’s not worth the hassle but the other part of me thinks, ‘We can’t let them win’.”
