Pilot scheme to recycle mobiles

-

A US mobile phone recycling company has launched a pilot scheme in the West Midlands.

Gazelle has installed new recycling kiosks in Chemsley Wood, Castle Bromwich and other locations in the region in the hope users will trade their old phones in for payment.

The move ensures the phones will be given a second life through refurbishment for resale online and to wholesale buyers and not end up in landfill.

Gazelle said this first round of installations in the West Midlands formed part of a wider project to target the whole of the UK over the next six months.

Yanyan Ji, senior vice-president of marketing, said: “Since 2008, we have provided this widely popular service to millions of customers in the US, giving them peace of mind when recycling their phones while also rewarding them with a truly competitive price.

“We are both excited and optimistic about our first venture outside of our country of origin and are looking forward to providing the same trusted and renowned service to West Midlands-based consumers.”
