School streets bans could be extended in borough

-

A SCHEME which bans parents from parking outside or driving past certain schools at peak times could be expanded later this year in Solihull.

Since September 2017, the council has piloted restrictions on traffic around three sites – Haslucks Green Juniors, Oak Cottage Primary and Marston Green Infant Academy. Drivers who ignore the ban face £50 fines.

Road chiefs now recommend that the system, which is in force in surrounding streets during drop off and pick up periods, is made permanent.

And they want to consider the possibility of imposing restrictions at other locations for the new school year, with eight sites identified as potential candidates. They are: Castle Bromwich Junior School, Tudor Grange Primary Academy - St James, Dickens Heath Primary, St Andrews Primary, Burman Infant School, Yew Tree Primary, Yorkswood Primary and Marston Green Junior School.

Cllr Ted Richards, cabinet member for transport and highways, will receive an update on the first 15 months of the School Streets scheme and consider his officers’ recommendations.
