Tammy up for staying with Villa
TAMMY Abraham has provided Aston Villa with a huge boost by choosing to remain with the club for the remainder of the season, turning down Wolves in the process.
Abraham, who is on loan from Chelsea, has 16 goals this season already for Villa but had looked to be on the brink of a return to London and a redeployment with Villa’s West Midlands rivals.
However, Abraham has told Villa he would prefer to stay and help them win promotion from the Championship.
Despite the huge speculation, Villa boss Dean Smith had always been confident the 21-year-old would remain at the club.
Asked if Abraham had played his last game for Villa, he replied: “I don’t think so. Unless they’re a team in the top six, there’s not many Premier League sides creating loads of chances.’’
According to some sources, however, Wolves believe the deal is not dead and feel it hinges on whether FIFA would ratify Abraham to play for them.
Abraham featured for Chelsea’s Under-23 side in a Premier League 2 game against Derby County in August and a player cannot play a competitive game for three different clubs in a season.
If FIFA rule the game was competitive any deal is over, but if he is able to play it may change the situation. FIFA are yet to give clarity over the situation.
Villa remain powerless if Chelsea opt to activate their recall option for Abraham before January 14.
