Grand designs shortlisted
TEN regeneration and development projects across Birmingham have been shortlisted in the annual RICS West Midlands Awards.
The new home of HSBC UK at 1 Centenary Square is among the finalists along with Savills’ new office space in the revamped 55 Colmore Row. Also shorlisted (see below) is Bruntwood’s renovation of Two Cornwall Street, now known as Cornerblock, and New Standard Works, the converted Jewellery Quarter factory which houses a special educational needs school.
The awards are run by industry body the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and celebrate the built environment and its social benefit across the West Midlands region.
There are eight category winners from which an overall project of the year is chosen, won in 2018 by The Royal Conservatoire at Birmingham City University.
Winners from these awards, to be held on May 8, will go through to the national ceremony in London later this year where they will compete against other regional champions.
Chairman of the judging panel Bryony Martin said: “This year’s shortlisted projects have made real impact on local communities, attracting more visitors and inward investment, providing much-needed housing or delivering vital services and infrastructure.
“The RICS Awards celebrate these successes as well as the talent and collaborative working of the teams behind them – delivering energy efficient and environmentally friendly projects, on time and to budget.”
