Bruntwood to splash out £50m in revamp plans

- Tamlyn Jones Business Correspondent

COMMERCIAL property group Bruntwood is planning to carry out a major renovation of one of its office buildings in Birmingham.

The company said it would start work in June on revamping Cornwall Buildings, on the corner of Cornwall Street and Newhall Street, as part of a £50 million regeneration programme which includes other sites across the country.

The firm owns and manages several office buildings in Birmingham city centre including Mclaren, Innovation Birmingham and Cornerblock.

Bruntwood said Cornwall Buildings would undergo “a significant facelift” including a new reception with breakout areas and collaborative co-working spaces and an inhouse coffee station to encourage colleagues to come together.

Tenants will also have access to gym facilities, bike storage and roof garden at the nearby Cornerblock building, in Cornwall Street, which reopened in summer 2017 after undergoing a £14 million renova- tion. A year’s free studio space is also being offered in the basement as part of its artists in residence pro- gramme which will see a new partnership formed with Birmingham School of Art.

Students will have the opportunity for their work to be showcased throughout the building.

Ciara Keeling, chief executive of the group’s office management division Bruntwood Works, said: “This is just the start of an exciting period of growth for Bruntwood Works.

“We have a long history of developing inspirational workspaces and have always sought to disrupt the market through constant innovation of our customer proposition.

“This investment will ensure our customers continue to have exciting, innovative and inspirational spaces to work and socialise in; spaces which not only create incredible environments and communities for our customers to thrive in but also support the attraction of talent, productivity and well being.

“We have taken learnings from our award-winning buildings to shape the designs which will lead the way in terms of technology and user experience.”
