Win showed our fighting spirit – boss

-

DARREN Moore praised his team’s “tremendous spirit” as West Brom struck at the death to leave QPR with all three points on Tuesday night.

Luke Freeman cancelled out Jefferson Montero’s early goal in the first half.

Albion were pegged back once more in the second period when Tomer Hemed levelled from the spot after Jacob Murphy had restored the lead.

The visitors tried everything in search of a winner and QPR finally cracked when Jake Livermore scored in the fourth minute of injury time to secure a 3-2 scoreline.

“Better late than never!” Moore said.

“It was tremendous spirit and character to keep going.

“We got our just rewards. Having gone ahead twice and to be pegged back twice, it was a bit harsh.

“We showed great discipline, great team spirit, that kept us going. We’ve come a long way together as a team.

“I’m really pleased with the players for going all the way to the end. It was good to see Jake pop up in the last few seconds and get the important touch.

“It was a tough night and to score three goals away from home is difficult. We kept going and created chances.”

West Brom looked laboured for long periods at Loftus Road following their derby win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

And Moore felt the extra day of preparation for QPR, who were in FA Cup action on

Friday night, was telling.

“We came off the back of a difficult and emotional game at the weekend,” Moore added.

“To come and reset again, it was hard. QPR had an extra 24 hours and that makes a lot of difference.

“It was a joint effort, together they dragged it out of the bag. We knew there was a lot to put in against QPR. It’s just about recovering because we go again on Saturday.”

Albion, who lie fourth in the Championship table, face second-placed Sheffield United at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
