- Fionnuala Bourke Commercial Editor

THE beat is on for this year’s Birmingham Post Business Awards – with pioneering musicians UK Drumline Ensemble set to celebrate the best firms and entrepreneurs in our region.

The professional percussionists, sourced from London’s most prestigious conservatoires, will be entertaining hundreds of guests at our black tie event at the ICC next Thursday (September 12).

This year’s ceremony is being hosted by journalist and broadcaster Daisy McAndrew and our keynote speaker is HS2 ‘architect’ Lord Adonis, who will be addressing an audience of leading business and political leaders following the controversial announcement that the project could be delayed and costs have soared.

Drumline, were founded in 2012, and are sure to add an exciting element to our evening. We will also be raising funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice at the event.

The ICC’s team of top caterers are preparing a tasty menu for guests to enjoy as the 12 winners of this are revealed – including our headline category, Company of the Year.

Other categories include four new prizes for corporate social responsibility, hospitality, property and young business person.

Our shortlist features some of the

most prestigious and inspiring businesses and individuals which are playing a key role in economic success of the West Midlands.

Birmingham’s business community has welcomed some exciting developments over the last 12 months, including HSBC opening its new headquarters on Centenary Square; JLR’s plans to invest billions of pounds in creating electric vehicles at Castle Bromwich; Birmingham Airport celebrating its 80th birthday and the publication of its final Master Plan for expansion; and progression with the Midland Metro extension.

This year’s Birmingham Post Business Awards judging panel was chaired by editor-in-chief Marc Reeves, who was joined by Lucy Fardy, relationship director with Barclays, PwC’s Midlands private business leader Neil Philpott and Sarah Pullen, Midlands managing director for Birmingham Post publisher Reach plc.

The awards would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and we are honoured to have the backing of Barclays, Birmingham Airport, Fazenda, Jaguar Land Rover, the ICC, Openreach, Park Regis, PWC, Birmingham Met, HSBC, BirminghamLive and Reach Solutions.
