Some-Ming has got to change – Ty

-

TYRONE Mings admits ‘something needs to change’ after Villa once again hit the self-destruct button.

At Tottenham on the opening day, Jack Grealish’s error was punished while, a week later, Tom Heaton’s moment of madness after 46 seconds against Bournemouth ultimately cost Villa.

At Palace, an error led to Jordan Ayew’s winner and Villa then failed to get the better of 10-man West Ham – and did so again against Arsenal, only worse after twice seeing their lead evaporate before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made them pay.

Mings had a moment to forget, all-too-causally attempting a headed pass to Neil Taylor a yard away from him before Callum Chambers gobbled the ball up and lifted it over Heaton to give Arsenal momentum to get the winner.

Mings said: “It feels like when we go ahead there is desperation to hold on to the lead rather than going and getting another goal and really being ruthless.

“I don’t know what it is but something needs to change, especially when we go either ahead or have a man advantage. It seems to have the opposite effect.

“Maybe it’s a mentality thing. Maybe we need to work on certain things. We’re professional footballers who have played in the Premier League.

“We know we should have done the same things as we did in the first half that got us into the lead.

“The manager didn’t really give us a message but we should have been able to troubleshoot on the pitch. We’re a pressing team and we like to go and press. We just stopped doing that.

“As a team we need to be a bit braver and go and stop teams higher up the pitch, especially with a man advantage.

“I don’t question the group of lads we’ve got one bit. There’s just certain elements of our game – and when certain things happen

– it seems to affect us in a negative way, rather than a positive.

“The mentality we have has got us into the lead on two occasions. It’s a natural thing to drop off when we’ve got a goal, but we need to start doing what we did when we got into the lead in the first place. It’s been our downfall.”

Wesley is still fuming about Villa throwing away their twice-taken lead against the Gunners.

“You cannot lose like this, you know,” said the £22 million striker. “Arsenal have ten men and then you stay back and you concede two easy goals.

“I don’t know (what went wrong), you score the goal and after five minutes you stay back. You cannot do this. If you stay back it is difficult to win the game. We have to continue. Now you have to look at the next game. You have to work hard this week to change and to get points.”

Wesley also revealed what Smith said to his players at full-time at the Emirates. “He was angry, you know,” he continued. “He said you cannot lose like this because Arsenal have ten men.”
