Petition to rebuild Cadbury social club after fire

-

A PETITION to rebuild the Cadbury Club has been launched after the historic community venue was destroyed by a huge blaze.

Member Trace Amber began the Change.org petition after the Bournville social club besides the famous factory was engulfed in flames on August 14.

The blaze has devastated the club’s 400 members and wider community including a couple who were due to hold their wedding reception at the community club on August 21 next year.

Bride-to-be Kelly McKain and fiance Daniel Snook had just paid the £300 deposit to secure the booking just a week before the venue went up in flames. The cause of the fire was later revealed to be an electrical fault in a light fitting. A committee member of The Cadbury Club also spoke of his “sadness and devastation” after the fire destroyed the historic building.

Peter Lucas said the social club had only just reopened following the coronavirus lockdown. He said: “It is just absolutely devastating – so sad.”

The petition, directed to Simon Smith, the site manager of the club, states: “This is something that couldn’t have been prevented and we are all deeply saddened and shocked by what has happened.

“We are unsure if they are going to be rebuilding this club so therefore I have started this petition to send to the local MP Steve McCabe. “Cadbury Club had great customers and also excellent staff so let’s get this petition started to get the lively Friday nights back and give the staff their livelihoods and jobs back.”
