Chief back at work after mild Covid
WEST Midlands Police Chief Constable Sir Dave Thompson has revealed he battled a mild form of Covid-19 but is now back at work.
Chief Constable Thompson took to Twitter to talk about his recovery from a ‘mild dose’ of coronavirus.
The 51-year-old father-of-two said he had contracted the virus, but had stayed at home, recovered and was now back at work.
Mr Thompson, who was knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honours, tweeted details of his illness.
He posted: “It is great to be back at work today after being at home with Covid. Fortunate to have a mild dose. Very important we continue to take action to minimise the spread of this virus.”
He is the latest in a long line of West Midlands officers who have contracted Covid.
The most notable was Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby who was critically ill and hospitalised with it last year, but has now made a full recovery. He spent two weeks in a coma with the virus, and a month in hospital.
News of the chief ’s illness comes after a weekend in which his officers encountered numerous breaches of lockdown restrictions.
