Brothers to open high street pub and restaurant

A NEW family friendly food and drink spot is opening in Kings Heath.

The Pub at Kings Heath will open at the former JD Sports shop, opposite All Saints Church on High Street, and will be run by three brothers – Oliver, Edward and Terrance Price from Carlow in Ireland.

The independent venue has seating for 120 covers and will also have bistro-style tables and chairs outside.

Co-owner Oliver Price told the Post: “The Pub is our vision of the perfect independent family pub where everyone is welcome – whether for drinks, to watch some sport or enjoy a meal with friends and family.

“One part of the venue will be the restaurant area, where diners can eat good quality pub dishes such as Sunday roasts, fish and chips, steaks and ploughman’s lunch. Lasagnes and burgers will also be available.”

He added: “And the other side of the pub will be for drinks only, where you can enjoy a beer or wine and watch some sports on our TV screens.”

It will offer four handpulls of various beer and a choice of two real ales, an extensive cocktail, wine and spirits menu.

Mr Price added: “My brothers and I all have experience running a pub, as we have worked for breweries in the Midlands for most of our lives, but this is our first independent place and we are very excited to be

opening in Kings Heath. We had been looking for a place here for a while – it’s a really great area for independents and has a good community spirit.

“We heard this unit was available last summer, but obviously, the pandemic meant we had to wait to a while before we could start renovating.

“But this location is ideal for our plans. The nearest pub that offers a similar environment to us is the Hare and Hounds, but it’s at the other end of the High Street.”

The Pub at Kings Heath will join another new nearby opening.

Just across the street, Rourke’s Pies, which has been successfully trading for takeaway over lockdown, has revealed it is expanded its premises to include a new cafe and deli with indoor seating for 14 diners and more tables outside.

Nearby restaurants in Kings Heath include Marmaris Turkish Grill.

JD Sports closed in October 2020.
