Pandemic heroes honoured
Great and good of region recognised for work in Queen’s Birthday Honours
LOCAL heroes on the frontline during the Covid crisis were among those named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List at the weekend.
In total, 23 people from across the region were honoured, with 11 made an MBE, one an OBE, one a CBE and 10 others awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal).
Many have been chosen because of their outstanding work during the pandemic, including Thomas CluttonBrock who set up a testing centre for hospital ventilators used in the care of patients.
Of the local recipients, eight are from Birmingham, five from Solihull, four from Coventry, four from Dudley, one from Walsall and one from Wolverhampton.
The Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, John Crabtree, said: “Making up the fabric of the West Midlands are some amazing people whose stamina, ambitions and work quietly deliver a better, brighter and kinder place.
“These people with big hearts are often known within their neighbourhoods but fail to gain the wider credit they deserve and never has this been more prevalent than during the recent Covid crisis.
“This year’s recipients showcase a range of outstanding achievements and provide an insight into the region and the people that make it so great. We are all very grateful for what they do each and every day and I am absolutely delighted to see so many gain the recognition they deserve in this year’s Birthday Honours.”
The individual honours are announced twice a year to mark The Queen’s official birthday in June and at the end of December – the New Year Honours.
