To be Frank,Villa are really doing the business early on

-

FORMER Villa striker Frank McAvennie believes the club are doing the right thing by looking to wrap up signings early in the transfer window.

Emi Buendia completed his club-record £33 million move last week, the Argentinian winger putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Villa are targeting further additions and McAvennie thinks more arrivals are on the way.

“They are going about their transfers the right way. It’s always harder when your players are away,’’ he said.

“There will be other players who they want to sign and it will be easier if they aren’t at the Euros.

“Then there’s a problem for the selling manager too. Do they sell their man before the Euros or hope he has a good few weeks and sell him for more?

“It’s fine if Villa want to sign players who aren’t at the Euros over the next few weeks.

“After the Buendia transfer, I wouldn’t be surprised. That transfer tells me there might be more this month.”

Buendia’s signing has been given a big thumbs-up by former Villa defender Alan Hutton.

“I’ve played against him on several occasions and you could tell he was a fantastic talent then,” he said.

“They’ll have thought he can enhance the squad, he’s not just coming in to be a squad player. I think he’s better than what’s already there.

“He’s just had his first call-up to the Argentina squad and that shows you what level he’s been playing at all season. It’s definitely mouthwatering.” Villa need to bring in competition for Matt Targett at left-back while a new central midfielder could arrive to add to Dean Smith’s options. A striker to provide back-up for Ollie Watkins is also under consideration but that could depend on the return to action of Wesley, who managed three Premier League appearances at the end of last season after recovering from a long-term knee injury.
