Entrepreneurial student to turn exam success into good business

-

MANY children leaving school aged 16 choose to relax and unwind over the summer months before entering the ‘real world.’

But a former King Edward VI Aston School pupil has decided to immerse himself straightaway by setting up his own online tutoring business.

Entrepreneurial wizard Malakie Davis has a passion for education and inspiring others to be successful.

The 16-year-old, who finished his GCSEs in May, believes he can offer a new type of tutoring which many adults cannot.

“I feel that, as a young person myself, I can relate to children of similar age better than some teachers in classroom settings,” said Malakie.

“I am the best person to help if teachers are struggling because I know exactly what children are going through, especially having recently come out of education myself.

“Going through the system made me realise how hard exams are for some pupils. I want to help them get through it and be the best version of themselves.”

The Harborne teenager is willing to teach any age group, up to GCSE level.

“I can relate to primary school children as well as pupils my age because I have a younger brother who is nine years-old,” he said.

Malakie, whose business goes live later this month following a number of parent ‘taster sessions’, believes he’s always had an entrepreneurial mindset.

For extra cash he used to buy and sell items online and dabbled in gardening, all while at school.

Proud mother Andrea Walters said: “He’s always been very selfmotivated and would often work

extra hours after school.

“I started my own tutoring business six years ago and Malakie had a very positive impact on all of my international students, so I know he’ll be fantastic.

“He’s worked alongside me, supported my teaching, helped make resources and planned lots of creative activities.

“I know he’s already started planning and creating some amazing courses to help with pupils who have fallen behind on their English and maths.

“I think his business idea is amazing and is a different way of learning. Some children don’t respond well to teachers.”

Malakie is predicted to achieve seven to nine A** grades when he gets his GCSE results on August 12.

One-to-one sessions with Malakie over Zoom will cost £20 per hour. Small group sessions will cost £10 per person.
