‘Generic’ house plans to go ahead
PLANS for a former golf course in Northfield dubbed “boring, generic and car-centric” by opponents have been given the green light.
Two applications for 170 homes on the site of the former North Worcestershire Golf Club were unanimously approved by Birmingham councillors on the planning committee.
Outline plans for 800 homes on the site were originally approved by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government following an initial rejection by the council’s planning committee.
But following a consultation, critics labelled the development itself “unwanted and not needed”, as well as “boring, generic and car centric”.
All nine councillors voting on the items supported the scheme, with none voting against or abstaining.
A spokesperson for developer Bloor said: “Bloor Homes is delighted by the decision of Birmingham City Council’s planning committee to approve the details of our first phase of
170 new open market and affordable homes on the site of the former North Worcestershire Golf Club. Bloor is committed to the early delivery of these much needed and demanded new homes which will be set within over 30 acres of new central parkland and public open space.”
