Serial rapist jailed for minimum of 18 years

A SERIAL rapist who attacked sex workers in Birmingham has been jailed for life.

Esa Juwara, 21, must serve a minimum term of 18 years after being convicted of five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how the bike-riding predator subjected his victims to a campaign of sexual violence in Ladywood over ten months between March 2019 and

January 2020. Juwara approached his first victim in March 2019 and asked if she wanted business.

In October 2019, he approached her again, and she did not immediatel­y recognise him as the same person who attacked her in July, but when she realised it was him, she tried to run away and begged him to let her go. punched her in the stomach and raped her.

On January 22, 2020, police stopped and detained Juwara as he matched the attacker’s descriptio­n.

Significan­tly, three out of the five victims positively identified Juwara as their attacker. However, the attacks were all so similar that he was charged with all five offences.

After the case, Nicola Heath, Senior Crown Prosecutor at CPS West Midlands, said: “Juwara cynically targeted sex workers whose courage and determinat­ion eventually saw him jailed.

“This was a deliberate targeting of vulnerable sex workers.”
