250 jobs on cards if new industrial units allowed

-

AROUND 250 jobs could be created if plans for four new units on a Wolverhampton industrial site are given the go-ahead.

Schroder UK Real Estate Fund wants to create four warehouse style buildings on the existing Tata Steel site, which it owns, off Steelpark Way.

The brownfield land has previously been used for ‘open air’ storage but the company said the redevelopment would create more than 19,100 square metres of commercial floorspace and create 248 new jobs.

Schroder also said the regeneration of the area will potentially bring in more employment opportunities in the future.

In its application, loading bays, car parking and landscaping will also form part of the development for each unit with access being maintained from Steelpark Way and Wednesfield Way.

Planning agents UMC Architects said: “The scheme involves the regeneration of a prominent brownfield industrial site to deliver a high quality and sustainable development.

“The proposals will provide investment and initially will create further employment. The proposals will represent sustainable development. Adequate space will be provided around the buildings for the necessary vehicle loading manoeuvres.

“The sizes of these areas are borne out of the dimensions of contemporary articulated vehicles and their turning circles with adequate yards provided.”

The agents continued: “The development of this site will result in a well designed, high quality scheme that is an asset to the area, and will provide a desirable development.

“It is anticipated that the scheme will act as a catalyst for new jobs and bring welcome investment to the local community.

“The development represents an investment to the area and will help to promote and support employment growth and stimulate economic regeneration to the area, cohesive with regional and local aspirations.”
