Jail for boss of fake clothing factory which made millions

Huge designer label racket hidden in plain sight churned out ‘Nike’ fakes

- Carl Jackson Court Reporter

AN industrial scale Birmingham clothing business was a front for one of the biggest counterfeiting rackets ever smashed in the city. Boss Inderjit Sangu ran the multi-million pound criminal enterprise from a factory in Hockley – churning out thousands of fake brands from Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss to Nike and Adidas for years.

Most were sold to markets up and down the country.

Now Sangu has been jailed for four years after a raid by Trading Standards smashed the operation.

Mark Jackson, prosecuting, calculated there were enough labels for £5 million worth of goods by attaching a ‘conservative’ average value to each fake brand label discovered by officers.
