Victim of Digbeth knife murder was young property investor

-

A NIGHTCLUB reveller stabbed in a fatal attack in Birmingham city centre was a property investor aged just 25.

Jason Bentley-Morrison was knifed in the stomach in Oxford Street, Digbeth, in the early hours of Sunday. He died later in hospital.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene for the much-loved 25-yearold, while his family described him as “irreplaceable and forever missed.”

The entrepreneur taught financial literacy and property investment to those struggling to see a path forward. He led workshops for young black landlords, where he shared his property knowledge to young people all over the UK.

Mr Bentley-Morrison spoke at an event about his success in property investment in 2019.

He said he started an apprenticeship at 18 and revealed he was dealing with nine properties by the age of 23.

“I was looking for a way out so got an apprenticeship,” he said. “I saved up for my first deposit and bought a residential mortgage and converted to a buy-to-let mortgage. Since then rent-to-rent has been a big part of why I’ve scaled so quickly. You joint venture with people. You acquire properties and build up. I’ve been in HMOs, service combinations, combinations of the two, single lets for my own portfolio.”

Asked how it had changed his life, he said: “It’s good. It makes work an option. It’s not a thing that you have to go there. If it gets too stressful I can just go.”

Police have not yet arrested anyone over Mr Bentley-Morrison’s death but say they are “following a number of lines of enquiry”.

An address in Esher Road, Kingstanding, has been visited as part of West Midlands Police’s enquiries.

Officers appeal to the many people in the area at the time who filmed the incident, saying they could have caught the offender on camera.

A spokesman said: “We remain keen to speak to those who were in the area and were filming what happened on their mobile phone. Similarly we’re asking taxi drivers, or other motorists, who were in the location to check dash-cam footage to see if they recorded the offender making off.”
