Villa lost out on £4m in pie sales

-

TO borrow from a well-worn soccer chant, no one ate all the pies at Villa Park – and it cost the club £3,893,092.

And no one downed a matchday pint during lockdown, either. That led to a loss of £5,855,165.

New figures have shown the full impact on pie and pint sales during the 18 months fans were barred from attending games because of the pandemic.

The Claret and Blue faithful would have been expected to wolf down 1,179,725 piping hot pies and 1,272,862 pints, research by GamblingDeals. com has shown.

That places the Birmingham club ninth in a calorie crammed league table of lager swilling and savoury snacking league.

And it’s very small beer compared to table toppers Manchester United.

Old Trafford lost 2,397,299 pints during lockdown, at a cost of £10,787,845, and 1,323,319 pies, worth £5,028,612.

In second place were the Gunners’ guzzlers.

At the Emirates Stadium, 1,961,122 beers would’ve been drank and 1,082,547 pies eaten.

That’s £8,825,049 down the drain in lost drinks sales, £4,005,423 in savouries.
