Ambulance stations may be closed

-

THREE ambulance stations in Worcestershire could be closed.

One at Stourport-on-Severn is set to shut next month, while sites at Malvern and Evesham are under threat.

They are among 11 community stations West Midlands Ambulance Service is considering closing.

All the hubs are in rural areas across Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire and are in addition to the main ambulance hubs in towns and cities.

A decision has already been made about Stourport and that will close next month.

But the 10 still under review are: Craven Arms, Malvern, Evesham, Market Drayton, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Biddulph, Leek, Rugby and Stratfordupon-Avon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service says the cuts are being considered because only five per cent of its responses are from these community stations .

The review is about “making the best use of all our resources”, the service said.

Staff from Stourport will be relocated to other sites, and that will be the case for crews at the other hubs, if it’s decided they will close. Staff would be consulted over any changes proposed as a result of the review.
