Probe as female victim suffered cardiac arrests and seizures

- Stephanie Balloo Staff Reporter

ACLUBBER was found in a critical condition after her drink was allegedly spiked with a ‘date rape’ drug at a Birmingham city centre bar.

The young woman, known only as Nicole, suffered two cardiac arrests and three seizures and was fighting for her life when ambulances arrived at Colmore Row’s Henman & Cooper on Saturday night.

Fortunately, staff stepped in to perform CPR amid the ordeal just after 9.30pm.

She was then treated by paramedics, but her condition ‘rapidly deteriorated’ and she needed advanced life support at the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said she was rushed to City Hospital on blue lights for emergency treatment.

The victim herself, who was recovering this week took to social media in the wake of the incident to thank the door staff and warn others to “get protection” for their drinks as it’s “not worth risking your life”.

In a post shared thousands of times, she wrote: “Girls please stay safe, I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.

“Get protection for your drinks, honestly, it sounds so silly but it’s not worth risking your life.

“I was spiked with a drug called Rohypnol which caused me to go into cardiac arrest twice and caused me to have 3 seizures.

“CPR was performed and I stopped breathing twice. I basically died twice and they had to bring me

back to life. I can’t thank my cousin enough as she was the one who noticed I wasn’t breathing and that’s when the door staff started to perform CPR.

“I’m recovering. I’m more emotionally scarred by the whole situation, someone went out of their way to actually drug me and it upsets me that someone targeted me.

“I remember nothing from the moment the date rape drug kicked in. I’m absolutely gutted this happened but so grateful to be alive ad recovering.”

Henman & Cooper told the Post it was taking the incident very seriously as it wished the victim a ‘rapid and full recovery’.

The spokesperson added that they were working alongside West Midlands Police and licensing officers.

They also thanked the team, including the member of staff on the door who played a crucial part during the victim’s ordeal.

A club statement said: “We are taking the incident very seriously, we are shocked that this type of incident has happened on our premises.

“It was an horrendous experience for all involved, we wish Nicole a rapid and full recovery.

“We’d like to thank our team who showed great strength and their experience saved Nicole’s life, luckily one of our door team is a trainee paramedic which was a crucial part of this positive outcome on this occasion.

“We’re working with Nicole and professionals to investigate and address the incident, we’ve spoken with police and licensing who’ll be assisting us with our investigation.”
