Sex attacker who heckled victim jailed for 14 years

-

A ‘‘DANGEROUS’’ man who kidnapped and raped a woman in an ordeal ‘‘lasting over eight hours’’ has been jailed – after he was kicked out of his own sentencing.

Belal Ullah, 42, ‘‘heckled and muttered’’ as the victim bravely told Birmingham Crown Court how she was “beaten, punched and thrown to the floor like a lifeless rag”.

In one attack Ullah, of Whitehead Road in Aston, threatened to ‘‘f***ing kill her, threw water over her and pulled her hair’’, the court heard.

Ullah was convicted of four counts of rape, kidnap with the intention of committing a sexual offence, two counts of assault by beating, sexual assault, and threats to kill.

He was taken down to the cells for his outbursts, and jailed for 14 years in his absence as the judge deemed him a danger to women.

The victim bravely read her impact statement, detailing the mental scars and physical trauma, aloud to the court – even as Ullah “heckled and bullied her”, interrupting her as she spoke.

“I have needlessly lost myself and become numb,” she said.

“From one slap, to punches, to being kicked around like a ball, to being intimidated. The trauma never left. He had attacked me at knifepoint. I got beaten, attacked and punched, thrown to the floor like I was a lifeless piece of rag.”

The incident left her with “constant fear”, she can no longer sleep or go to work alone and she has suffered from depression, anxiety and nightmares.

“My job is my pride and joy, and today I can’t even do my job properly because he has taken this away from me. I can’t do my job without having flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety and constant tightening of the stomach.”

Prosecuting, Adrian Fleming, spoke of the “mental and physical trauma” suffered by the victim.

As it was read out, Ullah continued to mutter and make remarks, sparking a warning from the judge who told him: “If you carry on like this, I will sentence you without you being in court.”

Mr Fleming continued: “He threw water over her and further assaulted her by pulling her hair.”

The rape offences, which formed a “sustained incident”, have led to “severe psychological harm”, he told the court.

Despite the convictions, his defence barrister, Zagreb Afzal, said Ullah continues to deny his crimes and will “go to the grave protesting his innocence”.

The proceedings were halted as the counsel addressed claims Ullah had been making “very serious threats in another language” to the victim. He denied this and shouted to Judge Roderick Henderson: “Your honour I haven’t done anything.”
