This well-presented, terraced home has a glittering history

- Jayne Howarth Property Reporter

THIS unassuming terraced house in the upmarket Birmingham suburb of Harborne is actually a gem of a property.

It was once the home of notable Arts & Crafts jeweller Edward George Hunt, a celebrated creative who counted aristocracy such as Eileen Sutherland-LevesonGower, Duchess of Sutherland,

among his loyal customers in the 1920s.

Hunt, who was born in Dudley, moved with his family to Har

borne after he became ill with diphtheria as a young child, which left him deaf.

After winning a free place at Margaret Street

Art School,

he went on to become an award-winning designer on the national stage and he opened a jewellery shop in Five Ways.

He is commemorated at the period home in Bull Street, where he lived and worked, with a blue plaque from The Birmingham Civic Society.

There’s no doubt that this beautifully presented, three / four-bedroom home, which is just off the main High Street and has come to market with an asking price of £575,000, looks very different from when Hunt himself lived there.

The agents, Wentworth & Rose, describe it as “impeccably presented throughout”.

The front door opens directly on to the living room, which has wood flooring, a wood burner and sash windows with built in shutters.

At the rear of the house is a large, open-plan kitchen/dining/ family room. The kitchen has fitted grey units with integrated oven, a central island with seating, space for a dining table and chairs and a spacious seating area that has bi-fold doors to the garden.

The ground floor also has a guest cloakroom with a spacesaving WC with integrated sink on top.

On the first floor are two double bedrooms, one of which has an en suite WC. The family bathroom is described as “opulent” with a freestanding bath on a stage, separate shower cubicle, a polished stone basin on a hairpin-leg stand and WC.

The third bedroom is located in the attic, which is light and airy, thanks to the Velux windows. This room also has an en suite bathroom.

The fourth space, which can be used as a fourth bedroom or home office, is in the cellar.

The garden is fenced both sides and has a decking area, shale pathway to the shed and end seating area and shed, plus a lawn.
