Villa designs raise £1,600 for hospice

- Steve Wollaston

BIRMINGHAM-based beer mat company Aston Brewing Co has raised a whopping £1,661 over the last 12 months for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The company, which has gone down a storm with Aston Villa fans since November 2020, started life designing beer mats based on the characteristics of Aston Villa players past and present as a bit of fun during lockdown.

Now, with three editions under its belt and up on Aston Brewing Co’s dedicated Etsy store, as well as 5,000 loyal followers on Twitter and over 2,500 sales to-date, the company was delighted to be able to hand over the charity donation to Acorns after partnering with the charity in February 2021.

‘We were quiet in our day jobs during lockdown, so thought the beer mat designs were an interesting idea and worth a bash,” explained Matt, from Aston Brewing Co.

“Before we knew it we’d drawn up a starting XI and were working through each player with a design in keeping with the player’s personality and copy we hoped would resonate with Villa fans.

“The whole concept was very much based on those ‘in the know’ subtleties about players and they seemed to go down a storm with Villa fans from the off.

“The charity partnership with Acorns felt like a logical next step as a way to use the community we’d grown as a force for good. Given the incredible work they do, in the most important of areas... plus the historical links the charity has to Aston Villa Football Club, it felt like a very good fit.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides respite, palliative and end of life care to children with life-limiting and life threatening conditions and their parents, across the West Midlands.
