Bowyer has long-term Blues vision

-

LEE Bowyer is ready to commit his long-term future to Blues.

The head coach has 12 months left on the contract he signed when he joined from Charlton a year ago.

Bowyer has reiterated a desire to continue his work at St Andrew’s – and his hope he will be given the time and money to do so.

“When I came here I didn’t just come here for a couple of years and then go somewhere else. I think I have done a good job,’’ he said.

“I think someone asked me, ‘What’s going to happen in 12 months’ time? Where do you see us in 12 months?’

“I said, ‘I don’t know, I have only got 12 months, I might not be here myself’.

“I want to be here long term, that’s why I came here, I know the potential of the club. Are we moving in the right direction? Yes, I would like to think so.

“I would like to think some of the football we are playing, the workrate the players are putting in every time, there have been a lot of positives.

“But it is what it is; I have got 12 months left and we’ll see what happens. They (the board) are aware as well that there are only 12 months left. They gave me the contract.

“It’s a club in transition and it’s going to take time. I said the other day, ‘Hopefully I am not just here to do the dirty work when things are difficult’.

“Okay, I have proven I am good at that, I have done that before, but I don’t want to be that person, I want to be someone that gets a bit of backing, like the previous managers that have been here. That’s what I thought was going to happen when I came, that’s what I was told. Obviously that was from a different person.

“But it ain’t the case and I am not complaining. I am still at a great club. Is it harder than I thought it was going to be? Of course. But it doesn’t change my opinion, I still want to be here long term.”
