Toddler dies two days after horrific dog attack

-

A MIDLAND toddler died after being mauled by a dog.

The Worcestershire two-yearold lost his fight for life in Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Wednesday.

He had been moved from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to Birmingham, which is a regional centre of expertise for trauma care for the under-16s.

The child was left with serious injuries after the incident in the hamlet of Egdon, between Peopleton and Worcester, on Monday.

Superintendent Rebecca Love, local policing commander for South Worcestershire, said: “Officers responded to a report of a two-year-old child in cardiac arrest at approximately 11.20am.

“It was quickly established the child had suffered injuries as a result of being bitten by a dog at the address in Worcestershire.

“This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time.”

She added: “Three dogs have been removed from the property and are currently being housed securely. I am unable to confirm the breed of the dogs at this time, but we do not believe they are banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.”

After the incident, the boy’s relatives began to transport him to hospital themselves from the rural area where they live, but were told to stop and meet paramedics at Worcester Countryside Centre instead, on the advice of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The toddler was then transported from there to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance. West Midlands Ambulance Service said “staff worked quickly to administer advanced trauma care to the patient at the scene and continued with treatment en-route to hospital”.

It was the second dog attack on children within days in the Midlands.

The first incident left an eight-year-old boy with serious facial injuries when he was bitten by a dog in Cannock at 12.40pm on Saturday.
