Boss admits it’s time for a clear-out

-

LEE Bowyer says there are no quick fixes available to Blues after the team’s Easter Monday hammering at Blackpool.

The head coach watched on in disbelief as his side were battered 6-1 at Bloomfield Road – a day he said was his worst in football.

He also admitted his own position is likely to come in for scrutiny as Blues have now conceded ten goals in their last two matches and, while they are safe from relegation, they are in an all-too-familiar position near the foot of the Championship.

Asked what is needed to turn round what has been a long-running situation, with Blues unable to extract themselves from the bottom half of the table, Bowyer was absolutely clear and even said he wished he had known how difficult a job he was taking on when he returned to St Andrew’s in March 2021.

“We need a clear-out, it’s plain and simple,’’ he said. “This has been going on for years now, scraping over the line.

“Last season we should have got relegated. I came in and turned it round. I have seen the other side of them, so there is no excuse, but this is a routine that happens every year, getting comfortable.

“They are paid a lot of money to step out there and do the right things for the fans that travel to watch us and that hasn’t been happening.

“I have been getting blood out of a stone. It doesn’t matter who is in charge, the players have to take responsibility. When they step over the line, I have said on so many occasions, if we carry one player in a game we get found out.

“Six goals, wow, never in my life have I seen anything like that. Is it going to be fixed quickly? No, I don’t think so.

“I can’t see it, what’s going to change this summer coming from last summer or January? Nothing’s going to change.

“This is the situation. I just wish I knew about the situation before I came in.”
