HOTEL OF THE WEEK

- By Nicholas Keyden

14 St Vincent Place

WHERE AND WHY: An apartment hotel nestled between George Square and Buchanan Street, Native is a stylish corner of calm sitting above the busy heart of Glasgow.

City-centre sophistication oozes from the unique details of this Art Deco building.

Winding up the classical staircase close to our top-floor apartment, the panoramic views of the cityscape from our balcony provided the perfect setting for a pre-dinner tipple.

The room was modern with all the amenities needed for a relaxing self-catered stay.

And there’s no beating a long lie-in watching the hustle and bustle of the famous square beneath you from the warmth of the comfortable beds.

For the light sleepers, no need to worry. No noise can be heard from the busy streets below.

ON THE MENU: Some of the city’s finest eateries lie onthe doorstep.

Native Glasgow is above the historic Anchor Line bar and grill.

Here you can sample dishes in a former first-class booking office.

Further afield, go for fine pasta at Sugo on Mitchell Street. Prices per dish from £7-12. If in the mood for pizza, try Sugo’s big brother Paesano on Miller Street. WHILE YOU’RE THERE: The Gallery of Modern Art on Queen Street is a must for fans of Andy Warhol and David Hockney, while anyone in need of retail therapy will find plenty of shops in surrounding streets.

Some of Glasgow’s best bars and clubs are within easy distance if you’re looking to dance the night away.

You can also explore Kelvingrove Park and the West End by subway.

WAKE-UP CALL: A studio apartment starts at £92 a night, penthouse studio, £143. nativeplaces.com
