Jacob’s new contract is a real cracker!

-

JACOB Ramsey says he will do everything to get Villa back into Europe after signing a new five-year contract.

The 20-year-old midfielder has joined Emi Martinez,

Matty Cash and Tim Iroegbunam in committing to the club until 2027.

“It’s a proud day for me, especially for my family. I’ve been here a long time, since I was six or seven and came through the academy, and I’m delighted to sign for another five years,” said Ramsey.

“So many people have helped me get to this point. I can’t thank everyone enough, from under-nines to being a scholar to under-23s to stepping up to the first team. There’s been a lot of up-anddown moments along the way.

“I’ve felt I’ve been playing well this season. It’s nice to be rewarded with a new contract. I’ve supported Villa ever since I started playing football really, and been to many games home and away.

“A local lad playing for the club you support and all your friends support and they all come to watch you at Villa Park... it’s a nice feeling.”

Ramsey has started Villa’s last 18 matches and has flourished under Steven Gerrard. He was close to breaking into Gareth Southgate’s England squad last month, while the Villa boss has admitted to wanting to build his team around the Great Barr youngster for many years to come.

“I’ve played a lot of games compared to last season,’’ said Ramsey. “The main thing is confidence and self-belief.

“At times last season you could tell I was lacking that bit of self-belief to play at a club like Villa but, this season, I’ve really stepped up and have earned my place.

“To score six goals feels good. I’ve always got that drive to get more goals and assists. I’m looking forward to the next five years. Since (Gerrard) came in, he’s brought in players like Coutinho and Lucas Digne, players who can help me improve. He’s been such a help to me.”
