Gerrard strikes it lucky asVilla sign Ror talent!

-

VILLA are signing a teenage sensation in Rory Wilson, who has been described as “one of the best strikers at his age in Europe.”

That’s the view of his Scotland Under-17 coach, who has been hugely impressed by the outgoing Rangers striker’s progress in recent years. Wilson is set to move to Villa Park on

July 1 for a reported fee of £350,000.

The 6ft tall 16-year-old has also attracted interest from Liverpool, Man City, Man United and Tottenham.

Wilson scored 49 goals during the 2021/22 season and netted seven times in as many matches for the Scotland Under-17 team.

And Brian McLaughlin, the SFA performance school manager and Scotland Under-17 coach, has spoken in glowing terms about the teenager.

“Rory came in aged 12,” said the former Celtic striker. “You could see the signs and he took things in working alongside James Grady (Scotland Under-16 coach).

“First year, he was a very slow burner, second year, a little bit better, third year, he started doing his habits. I think he is potentially one of the best strikers at his age in Europe.”

As one young striker prepares to leave Ibrox, another has been urged to head to the Scottish giants from Villa Park.

Former Premier League forward Noel Whelan believes a transfer to Rangers for Cameron Archer would be an “exciting” move. The 20-year-old is a transfer target for the Gers but they will have to beat another 13 clubs to his signature, as the queue for his services gets longer by the day.

Archer’s future will be decided during pre-season as Villa boss Steven Gerrard is keen to take a good look at the academy product before deciding where his future lies. Ex-Leeds star Whelan thinks a switch to Rangers would be a good move for Archer and said: “That could be a real step up for him.

“He could be playing in the Champions League and fighting for a league title as well. That’s the kind of stage he will want to be playing on.”
