JLR slammed for ‘wokery’ after axing use of word ‘slave’

JAGUAR Land Rover bosses have been accused of ‘‘wokery’’ after the firm ditched the word ‘slave’ to describe car parts.

The engineering term has been used by manufacturers worldwide for years with master and slave common terms for describing parts that work together.

Staff at the car giant’s Solihull plant will now use the word ‘surrogates’ when referring to parts used in their vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover confirmed the change was requested by workers. A spokesperson for the manufacturing giant said it fully supported the move.

But one anonymous staff member said it was an example of the car giant being “woke”.

They claimed it was “stupid” and suggested the change was not necessary.

The mystery employee was quoted as saying: “It’s just one more example of wokeism and it’s as a result of a few voices making a fuss. It’s so stupid because

‘slave’ in car making refers to a component that supports the function of another – ‘slave’ and ‘master’. No one here supports slavery. We just want to build great cars and go home.”

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson said: “This change was called for by our employees. We fully support their desire to foster an inclusive culture that is representative of the society in which we live.”
