Failure of common sense at the top
DEAR Editor, I really do wonder how much intelligence those at the top of our free enterprise economic system have.
It is reported that the chief executive of Birmingham Airport, Nick Barton, is being offered, and is apparently accepting, a salary increase of 49.3%.
He should be saying that he will accept a salary increase only when our economic circumstances justify it, and urging people across the board (most notably railway workers, including very well-paid train drivers) to moderate their demands for pay increases.
I am all in favour of free enterprise, which has shown itself capable of generating wealth across the board in a way which is beyond the capabilities of socialism, but if those at the top fail to show some common sense they will hand our economy to the likes of Jeremy Corbyn, which will be a total disaster.
