Peaky film to feature real-life stories from the war

-

THE hotly-anticipated Peaky Blinders film is set to explore three “secret” real-life stories, according to creator Steven Knight. The forthcoming spin-off of the Birmingham crime drama will continue the story of the Shelby family, with the younger generation expected to play a major role.

The sixth and final series aired earlier this year on BBC One, with Knight confirming that while there were no plans for more seasons, there would be a film to end the Shelby saga. Cillian Murphy will be reprising his role as Tommy Shelby, with Paul Anderson also returning as Arthur Shelby.

Speaking about how long it will be before production starts on the Peaky Blinders film, Knight teased: “It’s almost there. We’ve got the shooting schedule, we’ve got the dates for when we start, so that’s all going to happen.”

Knight is keeping the plot details under wraps, but explained that the film will incorporate real-life stories from the Second World War that are connected to the titular gang. “I’ve had this in mind for quite a while now, a story with the Peakys during the Second World War, and I’ve picked up three true stories that I’m integrating into the film,” he

explained. True, sort of secret and unknown stories about the Second World War, and [I’ve] involved the Peakys in there. I’m always interested because, with the Second

World War, there was so much going on and so much death and destruction, that lots of things happened that didn’t really make it into the history books. So it’s those things I’m focusing on.”

Knight has been a driving force behind the proposed Digbeth Loc film and TV studios which are set to be developed.
