Jordan: The game was up for boss after row with fan
STEVE Bruce’s managerial career could be at an end following West Brom’s decision to sack the veteran coach, according to Simon Jordan.
The club released a statement confirming the 61-year-old had been dismissed following a poor start to the season.
The Baggies have just one win from their opening 13 games and sit third from bottom in the Championship table.
Former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan says the writing was on the wall for Bruce after he was confronted by an angry West Brom fan following the midweek defeat to Preston.
He expects that, despite his vast experience, this will more likely than not be his final job in the dugout.
“I’d be surprised if it isn’t (the end),” said Jordan. “He spoke about it potentially being it after Newcastle and that may be because of the experiences towards the end when it got very personal with certain sections of the fanbase.
“The West Brom job came up and he talked about the opportunity of going to a football club he can rebuild again. It’s very difficult to argue the case for Steve.
“I was arguing it last week that they were in these games, and dominating possession, but you can’t take a team with aspirations to be in the Premier League to being fourth from bottom in the Championship and expect those above you to remain resolute that you’re the right guy.
“When you see altercations with fans the writing starts to be on the wall. You need a result, last week they played Preston, had 20 shots on goal, lose 1-0, Saturday they’re dominant, so it would seem, and they draw 0-0. So it does seem to be the curtain closing on an interesting career.”
