Carlos respects views of Albion fan protests

- By JOSEPH CHAPMAN Football Writer

CARLOS Corberan respects the viewpoints of the West Bromwich Albion fanbase as they used their home meeting with Blackpool to send a clear message to owner Guochuan Lai amid their current plight.

Hundreds if not thousands of fans, prompted through the movement Action For Albion, shone torches from their phones in the 12th minute, a poignant metaphor as they hope to ‘shine a light’ on the club’s woes and the decisions of Lai.

The stadium was markedly quiet. Perhaps the notorious midweek traffic deterred many fans, but there were thousands of empty seats around the ground - a significant message in itself. Chants were aimed at Lai throughout, and ‘stand if you want Lai out’ from the Smethwick End was well responded to.

Corberan, who had his game head on and who remained focused throughout, led Albion to his first win

as boss thanks to Okay Yokuslu’s late winner. He wants to control what he can control - and that is to make Albion a team which their fans can be proud of.

“You have to respect the behaviours of the fans but we are here to try to change the feeling,” he said. “We are here to make the fans proud of the team because it’s the most important

thing we need to do. The fans were supporting the team in the 90 minutes. My task is to change any type of negative feeling. It is the challenge we have in front of us.

“I believe we cannot be wait for one positive result to win the confidence (for the players), you need the confidence to get the results. Confidence for me means you know what you can do what you have to do. Confidence is to not relax, it is a responsibility.

“I’m pleased with the performance, we deserved the three points. A draw would have been unfair. Now we have another challenge in front of us, go to repeat in the next game.”
