Transgender child rapist too dangerous for women’s jail

-

A TRANSGENDER paedophile is reportedly being kept in isolation at a men’s prison as she is deemed too dangerous to be around female inmates.

Marcia Walker, who was born male and has connections to Worcestershire, would pose a risk if she was moved to a women’s prison.

The 48-year-old, formerly called Mark Walker, was locked up for 13 years in 2003 for raping two girls as young as four.

But while an inmate at Evesham’s HMP Long Lartin, Walker was convicted of making hoax bomb threats against the prison’s governor and his staff.

Walker received a further six months in jail for threatening then-Home Secretary Theresa May with a letter saying she was ‘a dead woman’ in another bomb hoax in November 2012.

Since moved to Category A men’s prison HMP Frankland in County Durham, it was reported bosses were keeping Walker in isolation because she was legally a woman and could not mix with men.

But a report said they had decided Walker was too dangerous to be moved to a female prison. Fellow inmates at HMP Frankland were reportedly ‘furious’ over the decision, claiming they were kept in their cells for around 45 minutes so Walker could wash and eat alone.

“She has to be treated as a woman but cannot be moved to a female prison because she poses a risk,” a prison source said. “And, as she’s legally a woman, she must be kept apart from male inmates.”

A Prison Service spokesman said: ‘Transgender prisoners do not receive special treatment and have access to the same facilities as male prisoners.”

Walker has had a long battle with prison authorities over gender surgery and living as a woman in men-only jails.
