Right side of the tracks

IT’S a railway station like no other – complete with a rolltop bath and stunning period features.

Studley and Astwood Bank station, near Redditch, is now a luxury home for sale at £775,000. The house, in Green Lane, Studley, even has parts of the original platforms in the garden.

Other delightful relics from its former life include a vintage Wild Woodbine Cigarettes poster on the exterior wall and an old-fashioned lamppost on the drive.

Built during Queen Victoria’s reign in 1868, it was converted into a home after the line through Worcestershire’s Astwood Bank closed in 1963.

Instead of offices and waiting rooms, the four bedroom home now has three bathrooms and is in an exclusive, private cul-desac next to four executive homes.

A spokesperson for agents A P Morgan says the detached house is a “spacious, characterful property”, adding: “The original platform edge is still visible and can be traced through the length of the garden.

“It’s been sympathetically updated to modern standards and styles, mindful of preserving original features whilst carefully bringing in modern conveniences, with decorative cues throughout, hinting to the property’s unique history.”

The decor harks back to the Victorian era. There’s a free-standing tub in a bathroom, feature fireplaces and vaulted ceilings.

Where once was a car park, there’s now a beautifully landscaped garden and orchard. There is also a detached double garage and large driveway that can fit many vehicles.
