Sorry Harry, Meghan is not Diana and history is not repeating itself

- Chris Bucktin

“NO one knows the full truth. We know the full truth,” Prince Harry declared ahead of his and his wife Meghan’s bombshell Netflix documentary.

Simply put, it was clear what he really meant to say was, “We’ve not had enough of trashing my family quite yet, so we’re going to do it some more”.

But the thing with the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ truth that has perplexed me and millions of others is how often they deliver their bombs only for it then to prove to be not quite as portrayed.

During their now infamous cosy chat with Oprah Winfrey, 17 claims were later found to be embellished, questionable or blatantly not true.

But today, Netflix viewers worldwide will have a front-row seat to their latest salvo on the very institution that continues to net them tens of millions of pounds.

Even before the first minute aired, the programme’s credibility was in doubt due to questions over the footage used in the trailer, with film unconnected with the couple used to suggest media intrusion into their lives.

One video shows photographers around a car as Meghan says: “I realised they are never going to protect you.”

It cuts to an image of the Duchess, who was referring to the Royal Family, dabbing her eyes, seemingly in tears. But rather than showing the Sussexes being pursued, the footage was in fact taken when ex-US President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen was leaving his New York flat in 2019 to serve time in prison.

In the first trailer, released by Netflix last week, an image used to show intrusion by photographers was actually from the red carpet at the premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two, in 2011, FIVE years before the couple had even met.

All this from a pair so concerned about the press and their family’s

safety they hire photographers to document their escape to this incredible private life of interviews, podcasts, and Netflix series. So brave and hypocritical it could bring a tear to a glass eye.

One clip shows a group of photographers surging towards a building, which was actually Crawley magistrates court, filmed on the day glamour model Katie Price appeared there last December to be sentenced for drink driving.

But in his voice-over Harry refers to his late mother Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash while being chased by the paparazzi in Paris, saying: “I was terrified – I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”

We are all used to Harry likening Meghan’s struggles to his mother’s, but this goes one step further.

The attempt to raise Meghan up to the iconic level of the late

Princess of Wales without the duty, sacrifice and service Diana made over decades is truly shocking, more so given just how short her time was in the UK.

But what is equally concerning is what now comes over as Harry’s monopolisation of his mother and his

constant highlighting of how difficult it was for his wife to marry into the royal family.

You’d think he was his mother’s only son and Meghan the first woman ever to wed a prince.

FIRST Donald Trump and now Joe Biden. Two cowardly presidents who happily let a killer escape true justice.

On Tuesday, it emerged the US Government had advised Harry

Dunn’s killer Anne Sacoolas not to attend her sentencing hearing today (THURS) in the UK.

Instead, the 45-year-old, who in October pleaded guilty to causing the teenager’s death in August 2019 by careless driving on the wrong side of the road, will appear from sentencing via video link from the safety of America and not face the family whose lives she traumatised so much.

What an utter disgrace.

Not only is the States content with seeing justice not done, they actively now take part in seeing justice evaded.

THE greatest US sitcom of all time (for me, anyway) lost one of its greats this week. Cheers star Kirstie Alley succumbed to a short but fierce battle against colon cancer, dying on Monday, aged 71.

To this day, I watch Cheers religiously with her character Rebecca one of many unforgettable characters on the show.

Many felt Cheers would never be the same after Shelley Long’s departure.

But due to Kirstie’s eccentricity, timing and comic genius, she saved Cheers from calling time for many years to come.

By juxtaposing footage of Diana with pictures of Meghan in various states of distress, they are saying the two are practically identical. They are not
