- CONNOLLY Technology Editor

NEW year, new you… as the saying goes – we’re all looking to make positive changes to the way we live heading into 2023. But instead of making resolutions you won’t keep, use these five apps to help you transform some important aspects of your life.

GET FIT The Bodycoach: Fitness Plans

They say: The new Body Coach app is here to help you smash your fitness goals and feel amazing.

We say: Everyone knows Joe Wicks, the fitness guru who kept our spirits up with live-streamed workouts for kids during the Covid lockdown. His app is an all-in-one fitness and food guide that aims to keep you in the best shape possible. There are, of course, live workouts with Joe himself, and training and eating plans that are tailored to your needs.

Cost: £69.99/ year (special January offer – usual price £89.99/year) or £14.99/month

SLEEP BETTER SLEEP by Max Richter

They say: Max

Richter’s awardwinning composition re-imagined to help you sleep, meditate and focus.

We say: Sleep is, of course, vital to our wellbeing, and most of us, it seems, are not getting enough. Rather than baffle you with science and stats, Sleep is a simple app that allows you to schedule your sleeping pattern around groundbreaking music from composer Max Richter. The music was written in consultation with sleep experts to help you nod off, and there are also compositions to help you wake up gently feeling refreshed, and to meditate to. If you have an Apple Watch, the app will also tailor the music to your current heart rate.

Cost: Free (subscription to Apple Music or Spotify required)

LEARN MORE Blinkist

They say: Where do the world’s smartest people get their ideas? From great books & podcasts! Blinkist transforms the key insights into powerful explainers.

We say: Blinkist is for those people who are too busy to read books properly. Or who want to absorb a lot of information in a short space of time. It condenses the main points of thousands of non-fiction books into bite-sized 15 minute audiobooks to listen to anywhere. It also offers the same service for some of the most popular selfimprovement podcasts, for those who want the very latest thinking. There are personalised and human-curated lists of suggested titles, plus discounts on full audiobooks if you want to delve deeper.

Cost: £59.99/year or £9.99/ month

GET ORGANISED Moleskine Studio

They say: Moleskine Studio includes our three highly acclaimed apps, downloaded millions around the world.

We say: Moleskine’s Studio isn’t a single app, it’s an innovative and beautifully designed system of three apps that will help you organise all aspects of your life. There’s a great calendar app called Timepage that brings events, maps, contacts, and weather details into a single streamlined place, Actions is a wonderfully simple to-do app, while Flow brings the Moleskine notebook experience to your phone – create notes with drawings and text. You can subscribe to Moleskine’s syncing service to use across multiple devices – although if you’re on Android, at the moment only Actions is available. iOS and iPad users have access to all three.

Cost: £24.99/year for all three apps

SORT YOUR MONEY Spendee

YOUR HEALTH,

They say: Spendee is a budgeting app already loved by almost 3,000,000 people around the world.

We say: I’m no financial wizard, obviously, and any big money decisions you make should only be taken after seeking expert advice. While signing up for Spendee may not be one of those big decisions, it may have a big impact on your financial situation. It’s essentially an app that you can plug all your accounts into – the vast majority of UK banks, card providers and savings options are compatible – and see an overview of where you are. You can organise and analyse your spending and savings to see exactly where your money is going, and set budgets to help you plan better. It’s all captured with a beautifully intuitive design. It’s free, but you can subscribe for extra features and more options.

Cost: Plus – £1.79/month, Premium – £2.79/month
