Eusty puts results into perspective

-

JOHN Eustace says Blues’ ‘difficult’ week needs to be put in context of what has been an encouraging start to the season.

Speaking after Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, Eustace defended successive losses to Boro, Hull and Burnley.

Not only have Blues lost momentum in the last week, they have lost players with defenders Marc Roberts and Dion Sanderson both picking up hamstring injuries.

However, the head coach feels it is important to put recent results into perspective.

“I was really pleased with the effort of the group today, I thought their attitude was very good, we stuck to the gameplan, we made it difficult for Middlesbrough, who are a top team in the league, and I felt we were well in the game,” Eustace said.

“Obviously the goals we conceded were very sloppy by our standards, it’s something we need to improve upon of late.

“The goals we have conceded haven’t been great.

“We have to get back to the drawing board and try and stop that.

“We have had a really tough week, it’s the first week we have had major problems.

“It’s been a fantastic six months. “The boys have over-achieved possibly and done very well against all expectation – and this week has been a really difficult three games.

“We have to remember we were playing against two top teams, Hull obviously aren’t one of the better teams but they are around us and to play Middlesbrough and Burnley we have to put things in perspective.

“So we can’t be too disappointed where we are at the moment. It’s a week in our season of six months, we have played some top teams, we have got injuries, confidence is a little bit low now after the week we have had but a week ago we had had the best season for the last ten years.

“We have got problems this week through injuries but overall I have been really pleased with the effort of the group, really pleased with the fans, everything about the football club has been very good.

“This is a massive, massive football club and we are trying to change the culture, we have had a bad week, we learn from it and move on.”
