JLR swipes hundreds of Facebook and Twitter staff
JAGUAR Land Rover has appointed “hundreds” of workers from the likes of Facebook and Twitter as part of a massive recruitment drive. In November, it was reported that bosses at the Midland car giant had told employees laid off by the tech platforms to come and join them.
The firm announced a “global hiring drive” to fill more than 800 tech-based vacancies. Bosses said the company would open a new jobs portal for displaced workers from the industry and help them “explore career opportunities”.
It came after social media giants announced widescale job losses.
And the vehicle firm - based across the Midlands including Birmingham and Solihull – took advantage, boasting its hybrid working patterns and company benefits.
Now, the company has issued an update. It has taken on nearly 500 digital and engineering workers to support a “digital transformation” – but still wants more.
Available roles are based at JLR’s tech hubs in the UK, Ireland, USA, India, China and Hungary.
They span autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, electrification, cloud software, data science and machine learning.
Anthony Battle, chief information officer at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Under the Reimagine strategy, our digital transformation is happening at pace and we need experienced digital and engineering specialists with skills in areas such as AI, Autonomous Driving, Machine Learning and Data Science, right now.
“We are offering people the chance to work on our next generation of modern luxury electric cars - some of the most sophisticated vehicles ever. “While a website might require a couple of million lines of code, developing an autonomous vehicle need approximately one billion lines of code - an incredible challenge for any data driven engineer to tackle.” Candidates can find out more about Jaguar Land Rover’s digital and engineering opportunities on the Jaguar Land Rover careers website.
