Jed insists boss in some good Kompany!

-

JED Wallace has revealed Albion boss Carlos Corberan is in regular contact with Burnley counterpart Vincent Kompany.

And the winger reckons Kompany’s Clarets are better than the Leeds side led to promotion by Marcelo Bielsa and Corberan in 2020.

Albion recently suffered at the hands of Burnley, when Scott Twine scored with a late free-kick to decide the game at Turf Moor. Few sides have managed to lay a glove on the runaway Championship leaders.

Wallace, who is preparing for a reunion with former club Millwall when domestic football resumes after the international break next week, believes Burnley can eclipse Leeds’ title win of three years ago.

“They’re very, very good. The only team I can compare them to in terms of the energy, the high line and how unorthodox they are is Leeds under Bielsa, the year they went up – but I do think Burnley are one better,” he said.

“We lost last minute to them recently and I know that Carlos, our manager, speaks to Kompany quite a lot. There are two people there who are tactically very clued up.

“They talk a lot about football. Even though we had a clear plan of what we were going to do to Burnley, they played their goalkeeper as almost a third centre-half.

“It completely ruined everything we were doing. I think it’s easy for people to say a relegated team should just go straight back up and that it’s all easy, but what Kompany has done there – I know he’s getting a lot of plaudits – he’s done an unbelievable job.

“The players, like (Nathan) Tella who can’t get a game at Southampton, their fans must be looking at him thinking ‘how’s he not getting a game for us?’

“He’s got 17 goals, by far one of the best attackers in the division. They’ve made some great signings and he’s improved the players already there.

“Burnley are very, very good and are as good as most Premier League teams.”
