Albion need magnificent seven – Jed

-

ALBION are facing nine crucial matches and winger Jed Wallace reckons they must win at least seven of them to stand any chance of clinching a place in the Championship play-offs.

The Baggies are five points behind sixth-placed Millwall, their next opponents at The Hawthorns on Saturday, April 1, with the same goal difference and a game in hand.

“We’ve been amazing at home. I think it’s ten wins in 11 and only one goal let in,’’ said Wallace. “The problem is that when you’re 17 games in and you’re rock bottom of the league, every game is a must win from that point to try and achieve your target of getting into the top six.

“It’s still not over. I know we’re needing a certain amount of wins in the games remaining, we have nine games to get seven wins, which we have done this season before. It was disappointing (to draw at Cardiff last time out) but I think there are a lot of tired squads around the Championship and the EFL at the moment.

“Ours is certainly one, we’ve had a lot of injuries, but hopefully we get a couple of people back over the next couple of weeks going into what will be a massive game against Millwall.”

The mood of the fanbase was one of resignation after the recent defeat at

Hull, but

Albion have since posted seven points from the nine available and maintained their superb home streak in the process.

It is clear they will need favours along the way, but the Baggies have plenty of control over their destiny. They host Millwall, Sunderland and Norwich before the season’s end, and could also bloody the nose of automatic promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.

“It can change so quick,” added Wallace (PICTURED). “Five points in the Championship can be nothing because there are so often three games in a week.

“There have been a couple of hammer goals – Blackburn, we let one in in the last minute, two points there are massive. Us and Boro have been on such a run to get into that top six, Boro have gone a little bit better than us – certainly away from home – but we know it’s still all to play for.

“I’m watching the other results coming in, you’re hoping other results go your way, as are every other team at the bottom and the top.’’
