Work starts on £80m Belfry regeneration
WORK on an £80 million regeneration project at the famous Belfry golf and hotel resort has started.
The project at the complex near Sutton Coldfield will see a host of property either built new or renovated including 9,170 sq ft event space called The Masters Suite.
It will be able to hold 648 guests for banqueting or a maximum of 920 for other events, making it one of the largest in the Midlands, and also overlook the resort’s Brabazon golf course.
There will also be 149 new bedrooms in an adjoining building and a new leisure club. It will contain a gym, four studios and multipurpose sports area while its new pool will have a slide, swim lane and indoor and outdoor hot tubs.
Already completed work includes the renovation of existing bedrooms, the building of two new outdoor event spaces, called Terrace on the 10th and The Green, and a redesigned Brabazon Bar and Lobby.
The overall redevelopment is due for completion in autumn next year. Resort director Chris Eigelaar said: “The commencement of work on site is a significant moment for the entire team at The Belfry after years of planning behind the scenes. “Work on the new Masters Suite and the wider refurbishment is moving at quite a pace already and it’s exciting to see the progress that’s made each day.
“We are experiencing increased demand for large events in the luxury venue market from both new and existing customers. The Masters Suite will allow us to accommodate major events that we haven’t been able to cater for before.
“The Masters Suite and adjoining bedrooms will transform our offering by providing a dedicated space for the meetings, incentives, conferences and events market.
“It will also be the perfect luxury venue for large weddings. We’re looking forward to building on our reputation as an outstanding business, leisure, and golf destination.”
