A life on the cut
JIM James was born on the canal in the 1940s during a time where there was still commercial carrying.
He couldn’t read or write or add up having had little or no schooling. At 18 he was called up into the army and posted to Germany. After five years he returned to a different world to the one he had left.
There was no trade on the canal, his parents lived in a house with the boats tied up and half sunk.
In this new book, Jim tells his own story of how he managed to overcome these difficulties, have a family, and a job where he didn’t have to read or write. Paperback £9.99 p&p £2.50
