THE Dudley Archives are appealing to Bugle readers for help in trac- ing the relatives of local men who served in the First World War as part of a special project.

Archivist Rachel Brown told the Bugle, “As part of our Hlf-funded Lost and Living project, our volunteers have come across some names and families that they would like to know more about.”

The names that the wants to trace are:

Bruton (killed in action) and Frederick Bruton (Royal Welsh Fusiliers), as well as a brother-inlaw, projects Private William James Thornton (killed in action).

The Lissimore family, some of whom lived in Kates Hill, including Walter Lissimore, Ernest Lissimore, Albert Lissimore (Royal Berkshire Regiment), Charles Lissimore (East Yorkshire Regiment – killed in action), William Lissimore (Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry) and Joseph Lissimore (Royal Engineers).

Cousins Clarence and Stanley Woodall, both of Netherton. Both served in the 2/7th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment and both were killed in action.

Joseph Knott and

John Beese, who served in the 3rd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, and H. Tarpey, all of whom were killed in action.

And finally, the Frisby family, including John (King’s Royal Rifle Corps), William (2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment), James (Worcestershire Regiment) and Thomas (Worcestershire Regiment).

Rachel added, “Any information on the above people will be a great help to our project.

“If you are descended from or have any information on any of the individuals/families, please contact Dudley Archives by emailing dudley.archives@gll.org or calling 01384 812770.”
