Can anyone tell me more about works railway?
I found the recent article on Baggeridge steam engines very interesting, and it made me think of my time at BIP Chemicals. When I first joined in 1968, throughout the site there were railway lines and loco shed, but no engine. The lines I assume connected to the railway siding between Tat Bank Road and Rood End Road.
I would be grateful if any of your readers could give any details on the operation of the railway – ie: type of engine used. A photo would be appreciated. Also the type of goods transported, and when did it cease?
How long was it in operation for, and what happened to the railway stock too?
While I was at BIP Chemicals, goods were transported by road to the site.
